Mesa Energética Perú 2035: INDECO by Nexans impulsa el diálogo por el futuro energético del país

Jul 2, 2026

Peru’s energy future will be defined not merely by the technology we choose, but by the decisions we make—or fail to make—in the coming years. With this premise in mind, INDECO by Nexans brought together prominent industry leaders and representatives for the "Peru 2035 Energy Roundtable", a strategic gathering designed to analyze the challenges and opportunities that will shape the country's development over the next decade.

Led by Alex García, General Manager PWR G&C Peru, the event centered on a key question: what infrastructure does Peru need to sustain its growth and advance toward a successful energy transition?

A dialogue among key sector stakeholders

To address this question, INDECO by Nexans convened the country’s energy generators, transmitters, distributors, and regulators at a single table. Participants included César Butrón, President of COES; Cristián Arratia, CEO of Conelsur; María del Pilar Matto, CEO of Celaris Energy; Pablo Morales, Business Manager at Pluz Energía; and Jorge Hurtado, Deputy Legal Manager at Redinter Perú. The discussion was moderated by renowned journalist Carlos Bessombes.

The dialogue was grounded in the report "Towards a Peru 2035 Energy Agenda," prepared by INDECO by Nexans. This report offers a regional perspective compared against the national experience, identifying lessons and opportunities applicable to the Peruvian context. Building on this foundation, the discussion led to several points of consensus.

Key takeaways from the discussion

The first consensus was that the energy transition entails far more than simply incorporating renewable energy sources; it involves building a more resilient, secure, and flexible system featuring a diversified energy mix and modern grids capable of meeting the country’s current and future needs.

In this context, electrical infrastructure emerges as the true enabler. Without efficient transmission, generated power cannot reach the market; without modern distribution, demand cannot be properly managed. To a large extent, the energy transition will be won or lost within the grid itself. Therefore, the debate should not focus solely on which energy sources to use, but also on the infrastructure required to connect, transport, and manage them.

However, deploying this infrastructure depends on more than just technology. There was a consensus that one of the country’s greatest challenges is continuity—specifically, the need for clear, stable rules that transcend political cycles and allow for a long-term course to be set. Only in this way can Peru’s energy potential be transformed into tangible investment for the benefit of all Peruvians. This is perhaps the meeting’s most important lesson: the energy future must be built collaboratively, guided by a shared national vision that aligns generation, transmission, distribution, and regulation toward a common goal.

INDECO by Nexans: 74 years electrifying Peru’s future

Fostering forums for dialogue like this one reflects a conviction INDECO by Nexans has cultivated throughout its history. With a track record spanning over 74 years, the company has played a key role in major projects across the country and the region—ranging from landmark developments such as the new Jorge Chávez Airport and the Cajamarca Hospital to the Punta Lomitas wind farm and a significant solar project in Moquegua that will generate over 580 GWh annually. Backed by the Nexans Group and its access to international solutions, technology, and standards, the company reaffirms its commitment to promoting spaces for reflection and collaboration that contribute to developing the infrastructure Peru needs to electrify its future.
