Empowering Women in the Electrical Sector: The "I'm a Woman, I'm an Electrician" Program
Jun 20, 2025
This June, the electrical industry is taking another major step toward inclusivity with the launch of the third edition of the "I Am a Woman, I Am an Electrician" program. This pioneering joint initiative by INDECO by Nexans, SENATI, Sonepar, Legrand, and new partner WEG is dedicated to advancing the professional development of women in the electrical sector.
In its latest installment, the program has awarded 20 full scholarships for free, specialized training in electrical installations, hosted by SENATI. The opening ceremony, held at SENATI's campus, brought together representatives from all partner organizations to celebrate with the new class of scholarship recipients.
This powerful initiative provides participants with the technical tools and hands-on skills needed to thrive in the electrical field—an environment historically dominated by men. More than just a training course, the program aims to inspire a fundamental cultural shift across the industry.
"We are deeply proud to see how 'I Am a Woman, I Am an Electrician' grows and strengthens with each cycle," said Alex García, General Manager of INDECO by Nexans. "We firmly believe in the limitless potential of women and the importance of breaking down barriers to build a more equitable future."
The program's mission is especially critical in a country where only 29% of women in Peru choose careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), according to data from the Inter-American Development Bank. "I Am a Woman, I Am an Electrician" is not just creating jobs; it's building a new generation of female leaders and innovators in one of Peru's most vital industries.
